Preamble

     The principal goal of the Slovak Mathematical Society is the overall support of the advancement and applications of Mathematics.



  Basic articles

     2.1. The Slovak Mathematical Society (SMS) is a section of the Union of Slovak Mathematicians and Physicists (Jednota slovenskych matematikov a fyzikov (JSMF)). The SMS complies with all relevant articles of the Bylaws of the JSMF and closely cooperates with the JSMF at all levels.

     2.2. The SMS is a voluntary organization serving Mathematical organizations and their officials as well as the whole Mathematical community (regardless of membership in the SMS).

     2.3. The SMS is a non-profit legal body, whose legitimacy derives from the JSMF. The seat of the SMS is in Bratislava. According to Article 1.5 of the Bylaws of the JSMF, the SMS is entitled to sign treaties of cooperation with other national or international organizations and to establish with them temporary or permanent joint configurations.

     2.4. The official translations of the SMS are: "Slowakische Mathematische Gesellschaft" (in German), "Societe Mathematique de Slovaquie" (in French), and "Slovak Mathematical Society" (in English).

     2.5. The SMS carries out legal activities which comply with its principal goals and it provides information about and access to such activities to the whole Mathematical community.

     2.6. The SMS oversees the Slovak Committee for Mathematics (Slovensky komitet pre matematiku (SKM)) and the Scientific Board for Mathematics (Vedecka rada pre matematiku (VRM)), organizes the elections and afterwards appoints their members.




  Membership of the SMS

     3.1. The membership of the SMS is regulated by the Bylaws of the JSMF.

     3.2. The SMS can accept payments or contributions towards its activities from anyone, in particular from any one of its members. The amount of such payments may be recommended by the Council of the SMS.

     3.3. The SMS can accept donations, both financial and material, from other legal bodies.




  The organizational structure of the SMS

     4.1. The highest decision making body of the SMS is the General Assembly, which meets at least once every three years.

     4.2. The Council of the SMS (Vybor) is the executive body of the SMS and it consists of Board members (Chairman, Vice-chairman for scientific activities, Vice-chairman for educational activities, Secretary), Treasurer, and 10 members.

     4.6. "Obzory matematiky, fyziky a informatiky" (Horizons of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science") is the membership journal of the SMS. The standard methods of communication are e-mail and internet.
